History of Team Kindred

Team Kindred did not start with the name they are known with today. Back in December of 1997 a guy by the name of Raven decided to create a clan in a game that had just started 3 months prior called Aliens Online. The team was called Ravens Flock <R.F> using the name from a popular wrestling group. The first members were able to choose the names from the wrestlers in RF with the first to be recruited were Lody, Shamrock and Saturn.

The four members would have about 1 good day of playing together. It did not take long (possibly less than a week) though with the first member to leave, Lody. Within weeks a new member was recruited and had his name changed to Lody, little did we know this guy from Paris France would help Saturn and soon team member Diablo form a highly respected and tight group of individuals.

During the first few weeks/months of <R.F> the only dedicated members, Saturn, Lody and Diablo started recruiting for the team with permission from the never present Leader. Slowly the teams name began to stick with people as the team started to grow and gain admirable players. During Ravens absence from the game Saturn was focusing on forming the team, building a relationship with the members and collaborating with the team on the rules the team would live by. A democracy type order was established in the team so that all votes were equal and members would have the opportunity to voice their opinions and be heard in decisions, as a collective of thoughts are better than one.

Months go by with Raven popping in every so often and with every visit seeming more and more rude, intolerable and offensive to the members and to the public. Something not tolerated by any member and the leader above all should not act like. After confronting Raven about the situation, and him seeing nothing wrong with his attitude, the members quickly rally and form a meeting as the community at large were noticing his behavior thus our reputation being compromised as being the "good guys".

It is from this meeting that the members decided to either leave the team to form another or ask Raven to step down and leave the team. With Raven agreeing to step down, since he was tired of the game anyway, the members then had to elect a new leader. The vote was unanimous with Saturn being elected Leader of Ravens Flock.

It did not take long for the members to want a new name, despite the recognition they receive in their <R.F> tags. Many names were thrown around but the one that stuck out the most was given by one of the newer recruits, but well respected in the community, Megatron. He suggested The Kindred with how well it fits our image of kindness.

Months go by with The Kindred becoming one of the most respected and well known groups in Aliens Online, running events for the public that ran the longest in the games history and in a time that was rough for the game. Despite the success of the events Aliens Online was shut down due to being bought out, along with a mass of other games that were also shut down.

What seemed like the hardest blow a team could face, loosing the only game they played, did not cause us to close our doors. In stead we had several team meetings to discuss the future of the team and what games the members were interested in. From these meetings we started Game Nights and restructured the team with new manager positions for each game that we would be in. The first 4 games we started in were Aliens vs Predator (not 2), Quake3, Half-Life (not cs), and Tribes.

Dividing the team to try and let every member play the games they wanted seemed right at the time but soon enough showed that it wasn't. None of the members could make all 4 game nights and divided the members causing some to quit because the low turnouts. No longer would we see the 10+ a night like we did in AO, but we were down to 2-4 in each game. After we tried everything we could to keep the 4 games without hurting the team we decided to cut back to 1. Quake3.

Quake3 would be the game we would play for little more than a year, and kicking butt while we were at it. Some of the best players to grace the Q3 servers although never got into major competitions. About half way through the year Counter-Strike was added as a second division. Both divisions would have their ups and downs on attendance but it wasn't until Aliens vs Predator 2 that we had to decide to drop one of the games as we learned that spreading out in too many games with the small group we had was not wise. With Quake3 starting to wind down in the community and with our members we chose to keep Counter-Strike and chose wisely.

With most of our AvP2 members focusing on a Total Conversion for the game and our CS Division growing by leaps and bounds we continue to stay strong. Lets hope to still be around for another 5 years with the same principles and good gamer attitude we have today.
