Purpose and Goal <back to top>
The Kindred has always been considered and referred to as having a close family relationship inside the team. We realize that there are problems outside of the game, most of the members have wives or husbands and families that require attention, many things can go wrong and people need someone to come to and share what is on their mind and relieve the tension from the day. People inside the team support each other and help each other out when we need it. The Kindred always tries to support the members in their time of need.
The Game is just a place for us to get away from the hustles and bustles of work and sometimes life in general and having an online family makes the time away from all of that even that much more enjoyable and something that we look forward too.
Hopefully through our passion for improving things around us and eagerness to help others that we will make a difference in the games we play.
For several years The Kindred was only in 1 game and would continue to grow in that 1 game to try and be the best that we could be. When that game ended we were forced to find a new home and other new games. We now play in 4 different games all similar in that they are First Person Shooters just like our old game. As a team we made the decision of which games we would move on to and strive to become great in those games as well. The 4 Games we are now involved in are :
Tribes
Quake 3
Half-Life
Aliens vs Predator
To become a member of The Kindred family you must be sponsored by 5 active members. Every Monday the Recruiting Officers give a report to the Leader of any new applications of people wanting to join and then any information obtained is then given to the team for sponsorship. Each person trying out for the team must attend atleast 3 Recruiting Meetings so that The Kindred members can get to know you and be able to then sponsor you on their thoughts. After you attend 3 Recruit Meetings then anytime after that you could join the team if we feel you are ready.
We focus on the individuals attitude above all else. If they have a sour attitude or get into fights or just cant enjoy themselves then there is no reason for that person to be in The Kindred and bring down the high moral of the team. Once your evaluation is over and The Kindred feels you are ready for your final testing we will contact you with a date and time for the test. The final test usually takes anywhere from an hour to 2 hours depending on what is left to be observed or if we see something that we might have missed.
If you manage to fake it during your evaluation and once your in the team your true colors show and there seems to be no solution to correct the attitude problem then you will be kicked out with no hesitation and hopefully mature enough to remain friends. Remember attitude is everything, a good attitude will show you the world and all its advantages but a bad attitude will show you the door. There are some people that just don't meet the standards of The Kindred but this does not mean we hate them or not want to be their friend. We have a reputation to maintain and do not want to have anything inside the team that would cause problems or create an uncomfortable vibe. We have been fortunate enough to have stayed strong for over 2 years now with many teams around us who have problems daily and break up because of disputes. This is something that The Kindred hopefully will never have to see and it hurts us to see other teams around us have these things happen to them.
Rules of The Kindred <back to top>1. You must be at least 18 years of age or older.
2. Never type profanity or abusive language in or outside of Quake 3. Meaning e-mail's or other games that we play together.
3. Do your best for the team and always be willing to learn and improve yourself.
4. Treat EVERYONE with respect.
5. We are not hackers and do not tolerate hackers or people who have to resort to cheating.
6. Your Team mates are your Internet FAMILY, treat them with respect and have fun with them. All rules are important but this one is the most important to keeping the team strong.
7. Maintain a current and valid e-mail address.
8. Do not gloat about something, keep it to yourself and sooner or later you will be recognized for a greater reason.
9. If you ever fear you might be doing something bad and the team might not like it DON'T DO IT :)))
Keeping in Contact <back to top>
This is very important for being in a team. Keeping in contact with your fellow team mates so that we know what's up and don't think you have fallen off the face of the earth. There are many ways to keep in contact these are just a few ways we use inside the team.
ICQ - This is a neat little device that when you are online (you have to turn the thing on :P) the people who you specify can see that you are online and can easily and quickly say hello or talk with you. This is not a requirement to join The Kindred but is strongly encouraged that you get ICQ and USE it :)). ICQ causes very little lag and unless you are the type that must turn every single thing off while your playing which some of you might be :P but if you are not that type then leaving your ICQ on would be fine and wont hurt anything.
Hotmail - It is important that you have some type of e-mail that we can contact you. If you do not already have an e-mail address this is the easiest place to get an e-mail address. Also once you have your e-mail it is usually best to CHECK IT :P If you don't check your e-mail periodically like every other day (1 week would be the longest time between checks) you can miss important information, maybe a request for feedback on something which happens a lot or just some news that is going on with the team.
TeamSound
- This is a cool voice program for the Internet. Designed for talking in games
this program has little to no effect on your lag and is very helpful for kicking
some butt. Currently we use this for practices and special duels/tournaments.
Roger Wilco - This is
another voice program that we use because of its dedicated connection unlike
Teamsound. This is used for normal playing until TeamSound can have a dedicated
number that doesnt change.
