Soon
weeks passed and then months. Jen and I got really close during
that time. During mission after mission...it seemed like things
were moving so fast. I noticed something in the way she acted now.
She was expecting something and I had no idea what it was. I decided
it was time to query one of her friends that she was now actively
talking to.
"Umm Danielle I got to ask you something.
Do you know what is up with Jen?" I asked.
"Well she said she was going out with a great guy. I think
he is in the Wildcards or one of those squads. She...well...she
thinks that since they have been dating so long that...what she
told me was that she fell in love with this guy. I mean really
in love with him and she would rather it didn't end." She replied.
"Neither would I." I muttered.
"What did you just say?" she asked.
"Nothing... nothing... thank you." And I walk away.
I walk back to the barrack mulling over
what Danielle said. She wanted a commitment. Wow I never thought
she would actually say that she wanted a commitment. Then I think,
"Am I ready for a commitment?" Would the brass try to split us
up? Would this affect our flying together and endanger the other
people's mission and their lives? On the other hand would I find
someone like her again? Same tastes, the love of flying, and its
not like we have any place to go or anything to do.
Slowly I bring up the screen in the barracks
and click on e-mail, I address it to her and attach a music file
by the Goo Goo Dolls called Slide. Recording the message, I basically
tell her listen to this and tell me what you think. I then head
back to the bar and grab a drink to wait to see what happens or
what she says if anything at all. Thinking again if she says yes,
then what?
I run down to the ship stores and ask
if they have an engagement ring.
He looks at me with a smile and says "Here." I leave him
the money for it and run back to the bar.
She is there waiting for me. Looking at
her I ask, "What's wrong?"
She smiles. "That has to be the most unique way to ask
someone to marry you."
"You really think so?" I ask.
"Yes I do, and the answer is yes."
My mouth hangs open. "Really? You will?"
I then reach into my pocket and pull out a black box and hand
it to her.
"In anticipation of this I got you this ring." She opens
it and smiles. "I know it looks a little big, but I think it is
nice on you." With that I slip the ring on her finger.
"Isn't this against the regs? Won't they split us up?"
She asks.
I grin at that. "You have to remember, we're black ops...
we don't exist so theoretically they can't split us up."
"Who are you going to get to do the ceremony?" She questioned.
"I was actually thinking of asking the captain." I said.
"Have you asked him or told him about us?" She asked.
"I think somehow he already knows and is just waiting for
my call." I grin.
"Well get on with it." She ordered.
"Yes sir." I mock sarcastically and salute. And with that
I smile and leave for the elevator to head towards the bridge.

Walking over to the captain I ask him, "May
I have a moment of your time sir?"
"Sure what is it Colonel?" he asks.
"I don't know how to tell you about this, but Captain Cartwright
and myself are getting married." I said, "We would also like you
to perform the ceremonies."
"I would love to, but Confed Intel has some huge mission
brewing. It seems they are going to end this war once and for all.
We are going to help them do it. If you could hold off on the actual
ceremonies we can get on with them in 2 months?"
"Yes sir, thank you sir. 2 months."
