Class Background: These small, nimble aliens are built for speed with a streamlined exoskeleton and light armor. What they lack in toughness they make up for with their superior reflexes and powerful legs, allowing them to leap the furthest of all aliens and navigate walls and ceilings just by jumping to them. A quick drone can actually survive longer than the tougher aliens since it is a much harder target to hit. Despite being lethal and dangerous in its own right, a runner is actually a developing alien. The runner's claws are not as sharp as more developed aliens, though they are still sharp enough to allow the alien to cling to and run along any surface. A runner has a thin tail that can puncture enemies like a spike, but it isn't large enough to cause much damage unless a vital area is hit. The runner's exoskeleton is covered with thousands of razor bristles that act as a structure to expand its caraspace upon. These bristles have the side effect of cutting all nets before they can entangle the creature, rendering such capture devices useless. However, the runner has not yet developed the ability to use its secondary jaws as a weapon or feed to regain health. It is also not strong enough to break doors, and must move around them.

Runners are best used as scouts or hit and run attackers. Due to their speed they can respond the fastest to a hive emergency and can kill or stall marine squads long enough for heavier "backup" to arrive. When a runner reaches sufficient maturity, it will molt into a Sprinter...
